Deep Freeze/Arctic Blast 2008

This is the scene earlier today in the frozen NW. Tree limbs are cracking and breaking off, sending schockwaves of snow as they impact the earth with such force as to close down an entire city. No, but seriously, this is quite the storm. The news peeps kept predicting and predicting this ginormous storm front and we kept naysaying the smug bastards. They were right. It is here, depending on which news station you watch, it is either "Arctic Blast 2008" or "Deep Freeze 2008". We got 8-10" of snow yesterday stopping around 6pm last night, then the freezing rain started...nice. I've not seen that before. What fun. The 8-10" of snow is now covered in 1/4-1/2" layer of ice. The video shows a little bit of that. Now it is dumping snow again, the smug bastards are saying another 4" of snow expected on top of the ice sheet. Don't think that we are going anywhere tomorrow. Yay snow storms in the Pacific NW!!

If I ran the world...

So I have spent about 5 hours over the past 4 months dealing with inept, incompetent morons at Verizon. I got their Fios TV service, that isn't too bad, we have had issues with the DVR receiver but overall, we are satisfied with the service. The problem has been with the billing and the way that they set up the account, apparently they did it wrong and the promotion that we got when we signed up doesn't exist anymore and not one of the 15+ people that I talked to (I might be exaggerating a little bit but I am pissed) couldn't figure out how to fix it. Finally, when I decided that after spending my entire lunch break getting transferred to every department that exists at Verizon without anyone knowing what to do, I was going to cancel service after work. So I called and I got the customer retention department, THIS IS THE GOLD MINE!!!!! They put their best customer service reps in this department. If they would just integrate these people into the customer service department to train the other idiots how to do their job, I wouldn't have gotten to this point. Nevertheless, I didn't cancel my service, damn that guy was good :) Maybe I will just say I want to cancel my service every time that I have a problem in the future, they sure get it fixed in a hurry!

Christmas Tree

We are so grown up! We got our first Christmas Tree as grown ups today at a cut your own Christmas tree farm outside of Portland. There are so few options here in Portland, what with the shortage on trees and everything...there were tree farms every 1/2 mile on both sides of the street. It was a lot easier than I thought that it would be but I only got 1/3 of the way through it before I had to let Aaron take over. So we brought it home and decorated it. It is so pretty! We are very proud of our creation. The cats LOVE it, I wonder how long until one of them (Steve) knocks it over. I am especially enthralled with the tree topper - Aaron picked it out :) Merry Christmas everyone.

Blog virgin

Okay, so I am new to this and I guess it is the more mature and responsible thing to do. I don't want to be in the under 25 age group that still checks their MySpace account...eeewww, who does that? ;)

We don't have much news from here on the Oregon front.

Just spent a lovely Thanksgiving Day at my boss' house, she hosts the "orphan" children for the holidays. I was full before we got to dinner so I didn't finish my plate. I didn't eat any mashed potatoes this year because they used margarine...thanks Dad. I just can't do it, it doesn't even taste the same any more.

Love everyone and we will post more and get some pics up soon.
